大阪工業技術専門学校では、毎年様々な国々から留学生を受け入れ、

建築業界で活躍することを夢見る才能が集まっています。

今年は、タイ、インドネシア、韓国、中国、台湾、カンボジアから新入生が集まりました。

Osaka College of Technology welcomes foreign students coming from various countries each year.

This year, we have students from Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Cambodia.

 

 

今回、タイはバンコク出身のスリーポン・プラパーパンさんに、

日本での生活やOCTでの学校生活について語ってもらいました。

Now let’s hear the “real voice” of the student from Thailand, Ms. Prapapan Suleeporn,

about her life in Japan and school life in OCT.

 

 

 

Profile: Prapapan Suleeporn

From: Bangkok, Thailand.

Ms. Prapapan came to Osaka as an exchange student during her high school years.  After graduating high school in Thailand, she returned to Japan and studied in a Japanese Language school for a year.

Now she is majoring in Interior Design here at the Osaka College of Technology where she joins in Craft Club.

Her favorite words in Japanese are “Shindoi” and “Yabai”

* “Shindoi” can be used as “tiresome”, “troublesome”, “bothersome”.

*“Yabai” originally meant something like “risky”, “dangerous”, or “bad”. Today it is used to describe something “terrific”, “amazing”, or “cool” as a slang.

 

 

本当に日本語堪能なプラパーパンさん。

日本に留学しようと思ったきっかけは何でしたか？

Why did you decide to study abroad in Japan?

 

外国に留学したいと思ったのは、タイだけではなくもっと違う世界を見てみたかったからです。

日本の歴史を勉強しすごく興味深かったのは、第二次世界大戦で負けた後の、復興や経済の成長が著しかったことです。

日本の人はチームワークがあって、皆で協力したからこそあんなに早く戦後復興ができたのだと思います。

私は2011年4月に日本に来ることが決まっていました。3月の東日本大震災の直後です。

当時は両親にも反対されましたし、私自身も来るかどうか悩みました。

でも、日本のチームワークを信じていましたし、日本が戦後復興した時の経験や復興するまでの過程を、自分の目で見て学べるいい機会だと思いました。日本留学を延期してほしいという両親も納得させることができました。

I wanted to study abroad to explore the world and experience a life different than my own. I studied Japanese History and was very impressed by Japan’s postwar rehabilitation. I believe that it was because the Japanese worked together hard and helped each other.

I was scheduled to arrive in Japan in April 2011, just after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. At first my parents asked me to postpone my departure and I myself hesitated to come. However, I trusted in Japan’s teamwork and I thought it would be a great chance to see the restoration of the Tohoku region.

Finally I could convince my parents to go study abroad in Japan.

 

 

晴れて再び日本に戻ることができたプラパーパンさん、もう日本に来て4年目になると思いますが、

日本の印象や、日本に来て驚いたことはありますか？

It has been four years since you have lived in Japan.

How do you find Japanese culture and lifestyle?

 

日本の電車の、時間に正確なところにとても驚きました。タイには時刻表はありません。

OCTに入る前の最初の1年間は東京の日本語学校に通っていて、毎日電車で通学をしていました。

電車に乗っている間色々なことを考えたり、気づいたりすることが多く、タイにいた時と考え方が

ずいぶん変わりました。「人生は電車」というタイトルで、スピーチをして賞をとったこともあるんですよ。

I was very surprised to see the Japanese railroad system was very accurate on schedule.

In Thailand, there are no time tables. Before coming to OCT, I lived in Tokyo and commuted to Japanese language school by train every day.  While I was riding the train, I noticed and thought a lot of things.  Riding on the train in Japan changed the way I think. I could see and imagine people’s lifestyle.  I even wrote a short essay entitled “Life is Like a Train Ride” and made a speech.

 

 

現在OCTのインテリアデザイン科で学ばれていますが、OCTの印象や良いところを教えて下さい。

How do you like studying at OCT?

 

OCTは、先生と生徒との距離がすごく近いのが素晴らしいと思います。

授業でわからないことがあっても気軽に質問できますし、時には冗談も言い合える。

とてもフレンドリーな先生たちです。

そして、自身で建築設計事務所やデザイン事務所を構えているなど、実務経験が豊富な先生ばかりです。

建築業界の第一線で活躍している先生方から自らの経験やエピソードなどをきけ、直接学べるのは大変貴重です。

私が学んでいるインテリアデザイン学科では、コーディネート、配置、レイアウトについてははもちろん、

設計や建築のことも基礎として勉強しますので幅広く学べますね。

インテリアデザインの部屋があって、設備も整っているところが気に入っています。

I feel that the distance between students and instructors is close.

The instructors are very friendly and I can even joke around sometimes.

And many instructors have their own architectural design firms and they all have many years of experiences in the field. It is such a good opportunity to learn directly from the experts and it is valuable. In the courses of Interior Design, I study space planning, layout, color and lighting and so forth, as well as the basic architectural drafting so I can learn about architecture comprehensively. The Interior Design Course has well-furnished design room and I like it to work on my project in the room.

 

OCTの学生の印象はどうですか？

What do you think about students at OCT?

 

そうですね、見た目と違って(笑)すごくまじめな生徒が多いと思います。

正直に言うと、入学当初は、「大丈夫かな？やっていけるかな？」という雰囲気が少しあったのですが・・・(笑)

みんな将来の事を真剣に考えていて、就職活動もしっかりとしている。

この学校で一緒に勉強することができて嬉しく思います。

Well, I think they are hard-working and diligent students, despite their looks lol .

To be honest, when I came here for the first time, I was worried if I could get along with them, but they are all thinking about their career very seriously and working on job hunting.  I am very happy to study with them.

 

今までで特に印象に残っている授業は何ですか？

What is your favorite class so far and why?

 

設計製図の授業です。企画書・提案書・模型を実際に作って、住まいの設計を考えた授業でした。一番実際の仕事に近い授業だったと思います。その時は本当に大変で、睡眠不足と戦う日々でした(笑)。でも、苦労して取り組んだ分、達成感や感動は大きかったです。

My favorite class in the past year was the design drafting class.  It was a very practical class where I made actual proposals and a model to consider home design.  I felt as if I were a real architect through the project.  The project was very tough and it was very time-consuming. I did not get enough sleep for weeks.  But, I put so much effort on the project and worked very hard, the sense of accomplishment was immeasurable.

 

プラパーパンさんは、オープンキャンパスやイベントなどの時に参加者をサポートする、学生スタッフとして活動してくれていますが、学生スタッフをやろうと思ったきっかけは何だったんですか？

You are currently working as a student staff and support high school students at events. 

What made you become the member?

 

インテリアデザイン学科の生徒以外とも仲良くなれると思ったからです。そして、自分のためにも勉強になると

思い挑戦しようと思いました。

また、小さい頃から母に、「学校から色々知識を得ているから、自分も学校の力になるようサポートをしていかなければならないんだよ」と教わっていたのも理由の一つです。

タイでの高校生時代には、スチューデントアンバサダーを務めていました。

I thought I would be able to make friends with students other than Interior Design course.  There is a lot of interaction between students and I thought it would be a great opportunity as well.  Moreover, my mother used to tell me that, “You get knowledge and skills from school so you should be the one to support it as well”. I grew up with this in mind as a young child, and I served as a student ambassador during high school in Thailand.

 

来年卒業予定ですよね。今後の夢、プランは何ですか？

You will graduate next year.  What are your plans and dreams?

 

OCTを卒業して、大学編入を希望しています。日本も大好きなので、日本で暮らして仕事もしたい。

将来は、タイと日本とを繋げるインテリアコーディネーターになりたいです！

I am going to transfer to a university after graduating from OCT.  I like living in Japan so I would like to try and find a job here.  In the future, I am hoping to work as an interior coordinator both in Japan and Thailand, and bring their architectural aspects together.

 

最後に、これから建築の業界を目指している人、留学生にアドバイスをお願いします。

Please give messages to those who are hoping to become an architect and foreign students.

 

とにかく、思い切ってやること。知りたいこと、わからない事があればとことん調べて、聞いて、ゆっくり自分のこれからのことについて考えたら良いと思います。やってみなわからん。

You should try if you want to.  If there are things you don’t know or you wish to solve, search and take your time to think about your future.  You never know till you try.
